The Minister of Digitization and Statistics, Meriem Ben Mouloud, said during her supervision of the work of the special session of the Programming Council, that urgent care for the issue of economic accounts and improving their quality has become a necessity.
The minister noted that the development of the national statistical system is one of the priorities of the government’s program and an embodiment of the commitment of the President of the Republic to establish a national network to collect statistical information from the local to the national level.
The minister highlighted that the statistical function is of great importance in preparing public policies, especially at the intersection of the world of statistics with the world of digital technologies, from which new specializations have emerged, especially in the field of data.
In the same context, the minister said, “Here, the importance of economic accounts, especially the gross domestic product, and improving its fundamentals, which constitute the most important challenges in the national statistical system and one of the government’s most important concerns in light of the new economic policy, is evident.
And the minister stated that the economic surveys related to household consumption should be taken care of as soon as possible, to be used in reviewing the approved base year and estimating the general internal product.
She reminded the minister of the importance of measuring and integrating the unrecorded economy into the economic accounts, which will allow the calculation of crude output in a better way.
Maryam Ben Mouloud explained that her ministry is currently reviewing the regulatory framework of the National Bureau of Statistics within the framework of the work force that was installed in the first regular session of the National Council for Statistics.
