The National Waste Agency: Algeria annually produces 65,000 tons of battery waste, which is valued at 100 percent.

The head of the Special and Hazardous Waste Department at the National Waste Agency, Assia Haddar, revealed today, Thursday, that Algeria annually generates 325,000 tons of special and hazardous waste, an important proportion of which is recyclable.
She explained, during an information day about this type of waste, that it comes on top of the special and hazardous waste, waste of used batteries and used oils, in addition to waste of rubber wheels and electronic devices.

These types receive the attention of specialized institutions in this field because of their economic value, with the support of the national strategy for the integrated management of special and hazardous wastes, according to the official.

According to a recent field study carried out by the agency, Algeria annually produces 65,000 tons of used battery waste, which is valued at 100 percent.

It produces 249,000 tons annually of tire waste, 4 percent of which is valued, which is equivalent to 9,600 tons annually.

According to the figures presented on the school day, among the 325,000 tons of special and hazardous waste produced annually in Algeria, there are between 30,000 and 40,000 tons of medical waste.

The official pointed out that 923,000 classified institutions have been counted in Algeria, of which 77,000 have industrial activity, and 900 public and private hospital institutions, all of which produce private and hazardous waste.
